In this past weekend’s sermon, I challenged everyone to actually apply what we learn on Sundays to our lives on Monday. I asked us to take the paint out of the can and apply it to the wall--to move from learning about something to taking action in your life. How did that go for you this week? Share your experiences on the blog.
Applying God’s Word to our lives, then living our lives as if the promises of God are indeed true, can be difficult. I liken it to a diet. We all know what to do to lose weight, but many of us just choose not to take the actions needed to make it happen. Right? We don’t cut down on calories and we don’t exercise. Applying God’s truth to our lives is a bit like that. We know what to do, but we choose not to do it.
In order to have a better life, a healthier life, and a body that works well, we do need to look at what we eat and look at the exercise we are getting. For some of us, we do need to make those changes to make our life better, fuller, and longer. That goes for our spiritual walk as well. If we want to live the abundant life that God wants each of us to have, then we need to start applying the truth we hear on Sunday mornings and the truth that we find in our daily Bible reading to our lives every day.
With that in mind today, have you applied what you heard on Sunday yet? It’s only Thursday and the week is not over. There is always hope. Why not give it a chance? I would challenge each of us to find one promise of God and apply it today. Remember, God will bless even the smallest act of obedience--the smallest attempt at following after Him and living out His Word in this world.
Open the paint cans and go wild! Get the paint out of the can and start applying it to the wall. In other words, take what you learn on Sunday and apply it on Monday. Your life will be changed forever! God is the master painter and He has amazing plans for your life and for all of our lives!
Here is an example of getting the paint out of the can! Mauricio Palacio is an artist that uses sand to paint pictures. Perhaps he will inspire you!
